Apocalypse & Heaven?!?!

Kiss.jpg Sunday night was billed as being the scary, doom and gloom session as we looked at the subject of 'end times'.

Aidy kicked off the evening with a few videos designed to communicate the worlds view on the end of the world. Words like 'rapture' and 'apocalypse' were mentioned in conjunction with death and destruction, but we delved a little bit deeper as we sought to understand what Revelation is really trying to tell us.

Apocalypse, as we said on Sunday night, is a thoroughly misused word in todays conversations about the end of the world. Whereas we might think it speaks of death and destruction, it really means to reveal and it is not just going to happen once. Every time we have an experience with God, we experience apocalypse as God reveals His heart for us. The word apocalypse can be used in conjunction with Revelation to show that God is going to reveal His plan for us and the whole world.

This leads me nicely on to Heaven, which as we discovered on Sunday night, is not a place we spend our lives waiting to get to. Instead it should be our hearts desire to see God create a new heaven and a new earth constantly in our day to day lives, redeeming peoples lives and situations. Gods kingdom can come now, and that should be what motivates us, not a golden ticket to heaven!

Oh... and we talked about the fact that the Jewish people did not like water! It's a good job as our verse for the evening said,

'Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no more sea.' Rev 21 v 1
