Notes from Phil Vischer's Discipled by Culture

It was so good to see so many people from both St Paul's and other churches on Wednesday night as we considered what it is to be "Discipled by Culture", ably assisted by Phil Vischer - the creator of Veggie Tales - on DVD.
As promised, here's a summary of what the groups concluded under his reference to "fun" and its position in our work with children and young people:
- Relationships matter
- Training, coaching & development of leaders
- Different people using different talents
- Statement true – but is it harder & less effective if you are not participating/ leading on a regular basis
- Maintaining relationships → encouraging family participation
- → Commitment key.
- See importance of family work.
- Seeing a difference in us…
- JESUS
- Relationship with teacher.
- Fun/ discipleship/ fellowship/ friendship/ faith/ friends
Generally, we seemed to conclude that relevant use of media clips is a good thing - as long as they are a TOOL rather than simply complying with the dominant culture! And we were - as ever - clearly reminded that it is essentially about people. That's us, them, and THANKFULLY Jesus!
It was a good night, with quality discussions, and a good level of thinking going on - so let's keep it up, that we might be more effective at reaching this generation!
