TaG (Training and Growth) is our very own mentoring scheme. Created in 2005, TaG has, to date, seen well over 100 young people mentored through St Paul's. Using youth department staff, youth team volunteers, and congregational mentors, TaG offers young people from Encounter, our senior youth group, the opportunity to meet with a supportive and challenging adult on a regular basis. Perhaps best described as a catalyst for change, TaG seeks to take the young person from where they are to where they'd like to be through considering their development under the three titles of personal, spiritual, and abilities.
In addition, we are delighted to havelaunched TaG for the adult congregation. With three different models, TaG will seek to encourage deeper discipleship through mentoring in one to ones, pairs, and triplets. This is currently gathering pace as more adults recognise the benefits both of mentoring and being mentored.
Anyone wishing to join TaG as either a mentee or mentor, should contact steve [dot] inglis [at] stpaulssalisbury [dot] org (Steve Inglis), Youth Support Worker.
We are very excited that TaG has been especially adapted to be used for the GOAL initiative which offers Christian mentors to local schools. Our initial pilot has been extremely well received, and new development opportunities are presenting themselves for 2012.
TaG is also available as a resource pack for other churches to purchase and adapt to their setting. Currently in use in over 65 churches as far away as Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and the USA, and adapted for use throughout the Salvation Army's ALOVE youth wing, the TaG Pack provides all you need to set up a tried and tested mentoring scheme amongst your young people.
