Alabare Sleep Out

On 2nd March 2012 Alabaré Christian Care & Support will once again be holding sponsored Sleep Out events across the region.  Building on the success of last year's events, they hope to get even more supporters to join them on 2nd March this year braving the cold and discomfort of a night spent outdoors.  By sleeping out for one night Alabare will raise awareness of the hardships experienced by those who are homeless, and help raise money to support those who are in real need. If you are able to join me sleeping out in the cloisters of Salisbury Cathedral, that would be brilliant, if not I would be extremely grateful for your support and a sponsorship form will be available in the church foyer.
Thank you
Mike Dominy

Collection Time for Children's Work

Please note the children's groups will finish at 12 noon every week and COGS parents should wait until then before they collect their children. This is especially relevant on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of the month when there is no communion and the service finishes earlier.

Children and Youth Work Team Meeting

There will be a meeting for the children’s work and youth work team on Monday 6th February at 8pm in the church. This will be a chance to meet the new children’s and youth workers, to talk about the vision for the groups, and to do some important training.

"Exchange Sunday"

For next Sunday (22nd Jan) Churches Together in Salisbury are organising an "Exchange Sunday". We are looking for a few (up to 5 members) of St Paul's who can represent us at St George's Church (Lower Street in west Harnham) - their Service starts at 9.30am. Can you let the Church Office know if you are interested? Thanks.

Richard, Ruth & family

Richard, Ruth and family flew to the USA last Tuesday. During January we are inviting financial contributions for a leaving gift, which we shall send on to them in Philadelphia. Cheques or money can be placed in an envelope marked "for the Morgan's" and sent to the Church Office or put in the collection plate.

Moving in the Right Circles

At the beginning of our year of Discipleship, our Sunday teaching sessions throughout January to March, and our group material, will be based around the chapters of Chick Yuill's book "Moving in the right Circles" which calls us to "Embrace the Discipleship Adventure". Please obtain a copy  and be encouraged to read the book to be fully up to speed with the teaching and preaching programme. Copies of the book are available from the Welcome desk at £4.80 (40% discount).

Alabare Need Sewing Machines

We are about to start a sewing group in Alabare Place and are in need of sewing machines for the Service Users to use.

Is anyone kind enough to donate a sewing machine for this purpose? It doesn’t matter greatly if it’s a hand-driven machine, but we do need them to be in working order.

If anyone has an old machine they don’t use any more, we can put it to good use.

We can collect machines in the Salisbury area.

Please respond to Hannah Bruford, Alabare Place Manager, Alabaré Christian Care & Support, Mob: 07786364864, Tel: 01722 334687  Email: h [dot] bruford [at] alabare [dot] co [dot] uk

Catering Safely at Home

Are you one of the many church members who occasionally caters from home for a church group or event held on the church premises? Whether you just make a cake or something more complicated don't forget that as a church we need to keep in mind the guidelines set out by the Environmental Health Department.

In general only low risk items should be made at home eg. a cake with no fresh cream or a hot meal that is either transported appropriately straight to the event or kept refrigerated according to the guidelines. Higher risk items such as Salmon Terrine! or other foods that are likely to deteriorate quickly or present more of a health risk should always be made in the church kitchen. If you are planning to cater from home for a church event always check with the event coordinator whether they are happy for you to make what you are planning at home.

Anyone who prepares food at home for a church event must comply with the guidelines set out in the FSA leaflet 'Catering from home safely'. Please download a copy from the resources page or ask Sandra in the church office to print a copy for you. You will find this booklet equally valuable if you are catering for a small group at home.

The loop system

The loop system enables anyone using a hearing aid set to "T" to be able to hear what is being said directly via a signal that is not affected by background noise. It is important to us to know that this is working correctly and we would value the help of everyone using the loop by filling in a short questionairre which you'll find at http://www.stpaulssalisbury.org/files
