Encounter is for young people aged 14 and over. Encounter
aims to make real, independent, thinking Christians
through its wide variety of activities and involvement
in the church and wider community.
Sunday evenings
The main meeting for Encounter members takes place
on Sunday evenings. It is a mix of worship, Bible teaching,
prayer, and a discussion of topics under the term's
main theme.
Sunday mornings
A small group meets in The Lounge during the 10:30am
service to take a relaxed look at the issues of following
Jesus today.
Lounge
Featuring the oldest bar in Salisbury (probably), we
hold regular nights in The Lounge featuring live music,
free pool, and great company. A great way to check out
Encounter for yourself!
Sparks
Sparks groups are small, one-off groups meeting to
discuss and pray through particular issues such as exam
stress, boys-only, girls-only, and other big issues.
STePs
Short Term Projects enable us to examine specific issues
in more detail. Topics covered have included homelessness,
identity, leadership, and sexuality. We have also run
Youth Alpha.
Outreach
We present our faith to our mates in a major outreach
initiative at least once a year. We also operate SPATs
(St. Paul's Away Teams) where we send small groups to
help churches lead their all-age services.
Community service
We sincerely believe that we are called to put our
faith into action, and do so on a regular basis by decorating
homeless hostels and working alongside other charities
in the city. Every year our July Project sees school
leavers serve the local community for a week, culminating
in "One Big Saturday" when over 100 members
of the church join us to make a real difference to local
people's lives.
Weekend away
We hold our annual residential on Dartmoor in February.
A fantastic mix of location, worship, guest speakers,
and God at work ensure the Weekend Away remains the
highlight of Encounter's year.
One-to-ones
We offer many opportunities to meet with an Encounter
leader on a regular, or one-off basis, to talk and pray
through any issues which might be bothering you.
Year outs
We regularly see many of our school leavers undertake
years out with mission organisations such as Tearfund
and Latin Link, as well as enabling many others to undertake
short-term opportunities in vacations.
All the children's work operates
to the standards and values
of St Paul's Child Protection Policy.
