Are you one of the many church members who occasionally caters from home for a church group or event held on the church premises? Whether you just make a cake or something more complicated don't forget that as a church we need to keep in mind the guidelines set out by the Environmental Health Department.
In general only low risk items should be made at home eg. a cake with no fresh cream or a hot meal that is either transported appropriately straight to the event or kept refrigerated according to the guidelines. Higher risk items such as Salmon Terrine! or other foods that are likely to deteriorate quickly or present more of a health risk should always be made in the church kitchen. If you are planning to cater from home for a church event always check with the event coordinator whether they are happy for you to make what you are planning at home.
Anyone who prepares food at home for a church event must comply with the guidelines set out in the FSA leaflet 'Catering from home safely'. Please download a copy from the link at the top right of this page or ask Sandra in the church office to print a copy for you. You will find this booklet equally valuable if you are catering for a small group at home.
