400 people packed St Paul’s for David Robinson’s pantomime adaptation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s “Treasure Island” on the evening of Tuesday 22nd December. Everything you expect from a traditional panto was included in the show, (“oh yes it was!”) with Long John Silver wooing Mrs Whalebone with Tom Jones’ hits and Captain Smollett trying some classic Cliff to win her hand. Meanwhile Jim Hawkins was taken prisoner on Treasure Island.
Brilliantly performed by the cast from the Saltmine Theatre Company the show was a fantastic part of St Paul’s Christmas Celebrations. Saltmine are old friends of St Paul’s, having performed ‘Screwtape Letters’ by CS Lewis, and ‘The Hiding Place’, the story of Corrie Ten Boom, here previously.
Thursday 24th June 2010 will see them return to St Paul’s with “Eden to Eternity”, the story of the Bible in 75 minutes, as they tour the country with Wycliffe Bible Translators. Further details of that show to follow. More information on Saltmine can be found on their website: www.saltmine.org.
